Hackers

Definition: The term "Hackers" once was used to refer to individuals who were particularly skilled in the area of electronics. Over time the term has taken on a different meaning. Today individuals who are accomplished at breaking into computers or computer networks and violating the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information. People who do so can be criminals, script kiddies or unauthorized employees. Security policies and measures must be implemented to provide for information assurance against an array of ever changing threat vectors, increasing the sophistication of cybercriminals and insiders.

Its Relevance: An organization must defend against the threat of individuals who to break into a system and wish to do damage or steal proprietary information. The people who would do such a thing can be your competition or located on the other side of the planet. You must be aware of the multiple threat vectors that originate from people with ill intent.
