INFOSEC

Definition: INFOSEC is an acronym that stands for information security. The term is generally conflated to everything that a business or organization that has to do with information assurance and the safety of its digital infrastructure.

The term can be used to refer to a set of policies and procedures based upon security best practices that would guarantee the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information assets would be adopted. Individual components would include a listing of all resources, risk assessments, detailed work practices, an incident response plan, forensics and business continuity. The assurance of an organization's data is key to its success.

Its Relevance: A business or organization must be aware of the information security challenges that exist. A computer security posture like the one described above must be in place to ensure the continued operations of any entity that is dependent upon information. It can be thought of as a mind set for business operations. Anything less would be negligent and display a lack of due diligence.
