IT Security

Definition: The phrase IT Security stands for the process that attempts to guarantee the confidentiality, integrity and availability of an organization’s information system. It would include a variety of measures to harden computer systems, software and other network components. A formal process is usually described in the organization or businesses’ operating polices and procedures. Topics may include the type of anti-virus software to use, how authentication occurs and describe the overall information assurance plan.

Its Relevance: A plan for protecting the information infrastructure is a necessity for a business, organization and individual. The volume of asymmetric threats is too great and the potential harm that can be done is too significant to be ignored. Threats are increasing and so is the damage that can be done. Infrastructure owners must have a plan or they fail to practice the basics of due diligence.
