Data Security

Definition: Data security is a generic phrase and refers to providing for the the assurance for critical information. The phrase, "data security" is generally used to describe all of the processes and procedures that have been created and adopted to secure all information resources. The term is less than specific and can relate to anything from what type of authentication methods are used to the software that is installed to provide protection from malicious code or the practice of updating patches.

Its Relevance: An individual, business or organization should be proactive and protect valuable information resources. Existing vulnerabilities and the threat environment make it necessary to do so. Failure to provide for information assurance invites malicious intruders to take advantage of any vulnerability they find could be a serious financial loss or the ability to do business.  A lack of systematic data security is negligent and a threat to you, your family, your business and the nation.
