WAP

Definition: WAP is an acronym that stands for Wireless Application Protocol. This protocol, as the name suggests, is related to the wireless computer networking environment. The protocols address how TCP/IP-like services are to be provided in a setting that is different from the services typically provided for with Local Area Networks. The information that is delivered on a personal data assistant, for example, varies from applications that appear on a 17 inch monitor.

Its Relevance: The assurance of business operations in a wireless and mobile space is a significant challenge. Yet the trend is for the workforce to continue to “go mobile” and expand outward. Employees need critical information “pushed” to them. The business or organization must be able to provide for secure channels. Detailing how the challenge is to be met is a matter to be included in the information security policies.
