Data security is a generic phrase and refers to the concept of providing for the assurance for critical information. The expression is generally used to describe the processes and procedures that have been put into place to secure information resources. The term is less than specific and can relate to anything from authentication to software installed to provide protection from malicious code or updating patches.
Its Relevance: An individual, business or organization should be proactive and protect its valuable information resources. Existing vulnerabilities and the threat environment make it necessary to do so. Failure to provide for information assurance invites malicious intruders to take advantage of any vulnerability they find could be a serious financial loss or the ability to do business.
